The single player game follows Goku and his clever sidekick Bulma as they travel the world overcoming enemies and obstacles to collect the 7 Dragon Balls. In the shoes of Goku, the player must protect Bulma from incoming enemy attacks using special skills, such as fighting with his power pole, or unleashing a kamehameha. Combined with Bulma’s ability to invent machines and weapons, the intrepid pair make a formidable team able to defeat even the strongest enemies or trickiest of obstacles. [Atari]

Simply put, Dragon Ball: Origins is the most interesting Dragon Ball adventure that Atari's put on the table since the first Budokai title.

Bulma, long cutscenes, skipped material and the control issues aside, the game is still really fun to play.

Meristation
Dragon Ball Origins is one of the most interesting videogames based on the story created by Akira Toriyama, with a valuable amount of characters and a gameplay that reminds of the latest Legend of Zelda. Its a game worth buying, with some minor graphical glitches that basically offers everything that a DB fan is hoping to play with.

Origins is one of the best Nintendo DS-games of the year, and both appealing to fans of and newcomers to the Dragon Ball-universe. It’s got a good story, great humour, plenty of action, and some nice visuals to keep you coming back for more. My only gripe with it is the at times not so precise control system, and lack of co-op mode, which could’ve turned this game into an instant Kamehameha.

A reminder of how entertaining the original story is, in an almost "Zelda" quality adventure. [Feb 2009, p.76]

While not too many people will be in tune with the original Dragon Ball series, it’s worth noting that Dragon Ball: Origins is the best Dragon Ball game available on the DS.

Dragon Ball: Origins is a treat for both diehard fans that have been with the series for the past twenty years as well as those who are only casual fans of the series. No matter which category you fall into, you'll definitely want to check out this blast from the past!

I can't see anyone playing through this game multiple times (especially people who know the story front-to-back already), but for the newly initiated or the curious gamer, it's just nice to see a popular franchise turned into a perfectly playable video game.

With a good story and fantastic visuals, this Dragon Ball game could have been brilliant if it had better controls and combat.

Worth Playing
Origins is definitely a step in the right direction; the gameplay fits the nature of the original series well enough, and while it isn't the most challenging or overly original type of adventure game, it manages to be fun and does a great job of capturing the mood of the original Dragon Ball.

Dragon Ball: Origins is a pretty good action-adventure game, and it's an even better re-creation of Akira Toriyama's classic comics. [Dec 2008, p.100]

Repetitive, bland and ultimately not very Goku. [Jan 2009, p.76]
