Summary
Dave Mirra is to BMX what Edison was to electricity. What the Wright Brothers were to flight. Like them, he rewrote the rules of what's possible. On the ground or above it, the Miracle Boy has redefined the boundaries of the sport and then promptly surpassed them. Now, the legend of the winningnest X Games competitor of all time is on the PSP system, letting you defy gravity wherever you go. With ad hoc wireless play for 1-4 players, you can challenge your friends to racing and freestyle competition and see who's got what it takes to ride with the greatest. 17 levels across 9 different environments. Customizable player characters, with tricked out clothes and gear. 10 Bikes to choose from and customize as you win. [Crave Entertainment]

The game isn’t very long, and it doesn’t have the great, highly responsive controls of the original Dave Mirra. But if you want low-cost excitement with a lot of replay value, and if you want something to play after finishing "Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam," BMX Challenge is worth a look.

Mr Mirra may have been around for a long time, but it seems that it is possible for an old rider to need to learn some new tricks, because a lack of originality and options, as well as some below par design, overshadow the better qualities of Dave Mirra BMX Challenge.

BMX Challenge is not interested in style, quality, or progress. It feels like a lost project from the "me too" era of five years ago, when every other company was looking to break into the genre.

The biggest challenge found in this uninspiring BMX game is actually enjoying it.

Don't do it. Unless you breathe Dave Mirra and have an irrational love of terrible games. You don't, right? [May 2007, p.79]
Playstation Official Magazine UK
The biggest challenge is dealing with the wonky physics. [May 2007, p.114]
1UP
The problem is that it plays like Tony Hawk's 1999 debut. Worse yet, it's not even on par with that.

An awful, rewardless gaming experience on just about every level.

A cringingly bad game in every way from level layout to AI and controls. Steer well clear. [May 2007, p.85]
IGN
A terrible racing game, and it's an even worse competition game. You might as well save yourself some cash and just stab yourself in the eye.

An abomination of a racing game, not only is it lacking in everything a good racing game needs (a sense of speed, fun tracks, controls that feel right and competitive AI) but it has all been put together with such an obvious lack of care or basic gameplay testing that you wonder why they bothered at all.

While there are certainly always things that I could bitch about, I have to say that this is one FUN game!!! It looks pretty good (especially for PSP), but boy is it a kick to play.
