Before I Forget
Strand Releasing
MPAA RATING: Not Rated
Starring
Jacques Nolot
Jacques Nolot stars and directs a tale of a downward spiraling gay gigolo, struggling to cope with his advancing age, poverty, loneliness, writers block, and the increasing complications of HIV disease. When his wealthy benefactor dies after thirty years of lavish support, his inheritance is challenged by the benefactor’s family, leaving him destitute. Underscoring his every move is the fear of being forgotten, or worse: dying back where he started – on the streets. Young hustlers, drugs, alcohol, and countless cigarettes provide momentary distractions, but ultimately, he must face his inner demons in order to be free of them. (Strand Releasing)

90
Village Voice
Scott Foundas
Exquisitely sad, idiosyncratic film à clef about an aging gay gigolo grasping at the embers of memory before they--and he--turn to ash.

Salon.com
Stephanie Zacharek
Before I Forget is, in the broad sense, "gay-themed." But it's also one of the loveliest, most direct and most devastating pictures about aging that I've ever seen.

88
TV Guide
Ken Fox
It all comes down to Nolot's marvelous performance: His Pierre is sulky, morose, self-centered and curiously likeable, and Nolot leaves you wanting to know a bit more about just where this odd figure might be headed.

80
The New York Times
Stephen Holden
An unblinking portrait of a complicated, solitary gay man who has outlived his working years.

75
San Francisco Chronicle
David Wiegand
A film one can admire, but it is not "likable," per se, nor does its director wish it to be.

67
The Onion (A.V. Club)
Noel Murray
It's hardly a rosy picture of what it's like to be gay and 60 in Paris. But it's an engrossing picture.

60
Variety
Lisa Nesselson
If you've pondered how to order a round of fellatio as one orders a pizza or wondered what gay gentlemen of a certain age talk about, this touching glimpse of faded beauty and looming decrepitude fits the bill.
